ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal summoned local officials of Rangers over not allowing him and other PML-N leaders to enter judicial court complex where former Prime Minister Nawaz sharif’s hearing was under way.
In line with media reports, on the occasion of hearing of NAB’s references against ousted PM interior minister Ahsan Iqbal including Raja Zafarul haq, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Talal Chaudhry, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Danial Aziz and Maiza Hameed were stopped by the Rangers to enter the court due to security issues.
Interior minister asked Rangers why the ministers were not allowed to enter the court at which Rangers responded that the authorities did not give permission to them.
After being disallowed by the Rangers, Iqbal said the Islamabad chief commissioner was coordinating the security arrangements for hearing.
"However, the situation had changed and the Rangers had taken over security [of the judicial complex]," said Iqbal, explaining that in Islamabad the Rangers operate on the directions of the chief commissioner.
The minister said that the Rangers claimed to have "their own orders", adding that this is a deplorable state of affairs which demands being taken notice of.
Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that he would rather resign than be a 'puppet minister'.
