MULTAN: At least 13 people were killed and 60 others injured in an explosion at Vehari Chowk, Multan, on Sunday night.
According to the media reports, the explosion was intense enough to crack windows of nearby buildings. Soon after the incident rescue teams reached at the spot and shifted the injured persons to nearby Nishtar Hospital for medical treatment.
The District Coordination Officer (DCO) has called the explosion a bomb and not a cylinder blast. While talking to media persons Nishtar Hospital management said that condition of some of the injured persons is critical because of explosion’s intensity.
Meanwhile, the bomb disposal squad has collected evidence from the blast site. The eyewitnesses said that the explosion took place right after an individual entered in a rickshaw. The Central Police Officer (CPO) Multan said that the investigation is underway to determine the nature of explosion whereas the DCO called it a bomb blast.
The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the Multan blast and expressed his deep condolences on the sad demise of precious human lives.
In a statement, he prayed eternal peace for the departed souls and commiserated with the bereaved families. The prime minister directed to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
