PESHAWAR: Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Secretariat Officials with the support of UNICEF, WHO and BMGF will launch four days anti-polio campaign in FATA and Frontier Regions (FR) from Monday February 15, 2016.
According to press release Children in polio high-risk areas including Khyber Agency (Jamrud & Bara), South Waziristan, North Waziristan Agency and FR Bannu (Baka Khail, Jani Khail, Hindi Khail and Sintanga) will be vaccinated for 7 days.
As per mentioned in press release that Anti-polio drops will be administered to 981040 children through 3078 teams; comprising 2718 mobile teams, 270 fixed teams and 90 transit teams in FATA and FRs, under the supervision and security provided by political agents, commissioners, para military and military forces.
It will be second anti-polio campaign launched in 2016. In the campaign accomplished in January 98% of the target children were successfully vaccinated while only (142) 0.015% refusals were encountered during the campaign.
Last year only 16 polio cases were detected in FATA and FRs, whereas, in 2016 no (polio) case surfaced so far.
In the recent Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meeting held at National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) Islamabad, TAG officials appreciated the leadership of EOC FATA Coordinator Shakeel Qadir Khan and FATA EOC team for complete shift away from hujra vaccination to house-to-house vaccination across FATA and for focused implementation of a successful IPV campaigns in core reservoir areas in December 2015.
TAG officials also recognized the work done by the Pakistan security forces in ensuring secure environment for all vaccinators in FATA and FRs.
