ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday, requested the Ministry of Interior to place names of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz sons Hassan, Hussain and and son-in-law Capt (Retd) Safdar on the Exit Control List (ECL).According to details, NAB wrote a letter to the Interior Ministry and urged it to place the above mentioned personalities names on ECL as it voiced fears that the suspects could travel outside the country.  

Director General NAB Rawalpindi Irfan Mangi has written this letter to Interior Ministry on the directions of Chairman NAB.

NAB earlier written a letter to ministry and requested it to place former finance minister Ishaq Dar name on ECL but ministry hadn’t place name of finance Minister on ECL.  A spokesman from NAB confirmed that the bureau had written the letter to the Interior Ministry regarding placing the names of the suspects on ECL. Currently Sharif family was facing three corruption references under the Supreme Court orders  in Panama Papers case.

Sharif, who was removed from office after the Panama Papers case verdict last July, has been indicted in the three references related to Azizia Steel Mills, Avenfield Apartments and offshore companies.  While Sharif continues to attend the hearing of corruption references conducted by an Accountability Court, the NAB has also moved two more supplementary references against him. Numbers of witnesses have recorded their statements in these cases and final verdict of these cases would likely to be accepted till March 10, 2018.

According to a NAB official, letter was written to the Interior Ministry informing it that Nawaz Sharif was facing three NAB references – Avenfield properties, Azizia & Hill Metal Establishment, and Flagship Investments while Maryam and Safdar are accused in Avenfield properties reference. All three are key accused in different cases and proceedings against them were pending before an accountability court, the NAB mentioned in the letter.
