ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production unanimously approved the bill titled “Airports Security Force (Amendment) Bill 2012”.
The meeting was presided over by Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production today at the Parliament House.
The bill was moved by Sardar Saleem Haider Khan Minister of State of Defence in the Senate on 11th October, 2012 and referred to the Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production for further consideration.
The Committee, while approving the bill, also asked the Ministry of Defence to review in consultation with the Finance and Establishment Divisions, the restructuring of ASF so as to overcome the long standing dichotomy in pay scales/ rank of Security Officers and Assistant Security Officers in ASF in a period of 90 days and submit a detailed report to the committee.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed observed that ASF is an important organization and the committee would make all out effort to facilitate ASF to bring further improvement in its working and performance.
He said, o the whole, ASF was performing a difficult task with professionalism and the Senate Defence Committee would endeavor to promote its capacity to better protect internal security at the 26 airports functioning in Pakistan.
Earlier Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence R/Admiral Farrokh Ahmed gave a detailed overview of the ASF Act and the reasons for amendment. Senior officers of the Establishment Division, ASF, Finance Division and other relevant departments also apprised the Committee about their view point on the bill.
The meeting was also attended by leader of opposition in the Senate Ishaq Dar, Senator Farhatullah Babar besides senior officers of the ministries of Defence, Establishment Division, Law and other relevant departments. Special Secretary Senate Mr. Amjed Pervez was also present on the occasion.
