Rehman Malik urges US to release Dr. Aafia
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has appealed to America to release the imprisoned Dr Aafia Siddiqui over mutual concerns.
Talking to media after his talks with former American Attorney General, Ramsey Clarke and Aafia Siddiqui’s sister Fauzia Siddiqui, he informed media that former Attorney General of America, Ramsay Clarke was well known for his effective and result-oriented human rights’ efforts, and was also actively working over Aafia Siddiqui’s case in America.
Rehman Malik said that during his talks with the American human rights activist, he (Rehman) also conveyed Pakistani government’s deep apprehensions and concerns about the issue, and government desired that Aafia Siddiqui be ‘deported’ and be handed over to Pakistani government, along with one of her ‘missing’ son.
The interior minister also disclosed that Ramsay Clark had offered some very genuine advice regarding the issue of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, which the interior minister would be forwarding to Prime Minister and President.
Rehman Malik also conveyed the anger of Pakistani masses over continued drone attacks; an issue equally voiced by Pakistani Parliament.
Meanwhile Talking to media on the occasion, the former American Attorney General said that real peace and harmony could be only attained by ensuring human rights and safety/life of citizens.
Ramsay Clark derided the slow paced American justice and expressed that American government should have / must consider the feelings of Pakistan in Aafia case.
He also stressed on strengthening of Pak-USA mutual friendship and respect for each other’s sovereignty. “ A citizen abducted from another country should have to be returned to his/her country of origin”.
Talking to media, the sister of the abducted Pakistani national, Fauzia Siddiqui expressed her great respect and admiration for global standing of humanitarian efforts of Ramsay Clarke, and also reposed her great trust and faith for his efforts to secure the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
Expressing her deep gratitude for interior minister Rehman Malik’s efforts and his being the major source of efforts for securing the release of Dr. Aafia, she said that she was hopeful that something positive would turn up.
