KARACHI: The Shawwal moon has not been sighted in the country and hence the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday (Aug 20).
The formal announcement was made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman in a press conference at Met Complex Karachi after convening meeting of the body for sighting the moon and gathering evidences.
Mufti announced, there is no evidence of moon from any parts of the countries so Sunday, August 19, will be 30th Ramadan and first Shawal will be on Monday, August 20.
The body gathered evidences about moon sighting from all the four provinces of the country and meeting of Zonal moon-sighting committees were held simultaneously in their respective headquarters.
The met office also said that no moon was sighted anywhere in the country.
However Bajaur Agency has announced to celebrate Eid ul Azha on Sunday.
Local clerics were of the view that they have received reliable evidences in this regard after which they have announced to celebrate Eid.
On the other hand, some clerics held an unofficial meeting at Mosque Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar. They are of the view that they have received about eight evidences regarding moon sighting.
While Eid in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and other Arab countries will be celebrated on Sunday. Muslims in Europe and the US will also celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Sunday.
