Sheikh Abdul Aziz to be remembered today

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, glowing tributes will be paid to all Kashmiri martyrs including APHC leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his fourth martyrdom anniversary, today (Saturday).

All Hurriyet leaders will go to martyrs’ graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar to eulogise the martyrs for their great sacrifices to the noble cause of Kashmir. The leaders will participate in a prayers ceremony to be held at the graveyard. Seminars will also be held on the occasion.

It was on 11th August, 2008, that Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by Indian troops while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control against the economic blockade of the Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing Juma congregation at historical mosque of Srinagar reiterated his demand for withdrawal of Indian troops and repeal of all black laws including Armed Forces Special Powers Act and Public Safety Act from the territory.

JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, addressing a mammoth rally at Tral said that history stood testimony to the fact that New Delhi had never allowed Kashmiris to prosper. His address was punctuated by anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.

Hurriyet leaders Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Masroor Abbas, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Zafar Akbar Butt, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Syed Bashir Ahmad Andrabi and Hakeem Abdur Rashid addressing public gatherings at different places said that the Kashmiris were masters of their destiny and they would decide their future themselves.

The Indian police took into custody veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, when he was leaving his residence for Juma prayers. Hurriyet leaders Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Javed Ahmad Mir were arrested in Kulgam to prevent them from addressing a public gathering in the area. The police took into custody another Hurriyet leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza from his house and lodged him at Saddar Police Station in Islamabad town.

On the other hand, a retired police officer was killed in an attack carried out by unknown persons at Tangpora in Srinagar, Friday.
