After earthquake on October 8, 2005, walls of these flats cracked. The encroachments, 10 to 15 feet in face of the flats, have further weakened the condition of these buildings.
It seems that if the illegal construction is not checked, it can lead to destruction similar to what happened after the earthquake in 2005 with Margalla towers flats, and cause loss of precious lives.
High-ups of Capital Development Authority are indifferent to the complaints lodged by the citizens and have not taken any action.
Media reports pointed out the issue several times, as a result of which CDA has issued notices to the encroachers. But, the illegal activity is still going on.
When Online contacted the owners of these flats, it was revealed that most of them live overseas and they have no knowledge about the matter.
The citizens have demanded of CDA that it conduct a survey of these flats, and issue directions to eliminate unlawful construction so that the dangers to innocent lives caused by a natural disaster might be avoided.
