JI welcomes SC decision striking down contempt law

LAHORE: Ameer Jamaat e Islami Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan has welcomed the Supreme Court decision striking down the Contempt of Court law 2012, and said the apex court ruling was in line with the constitution of the country and the aspirations of the nation..
Commenting on the Supreme Court ruling, the JI Ameer said that this law had been cooked up to provide protection to the rulers and was in conflict with the Quran and the Sunnah.

He pointed out that the law was in conflict with the constitution, and added that under the constitution, no such law could be framed or enforced in the country.
He expressed the hope that the Supreme Court decision would further strengthen the constitution and the constitutional institutions.
