He said this in a meeting with former PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at the Aiwan-e-Sadar. The meeting, which lasted for over two hours, discussed wide range of issues including the current political situation of the country.
The Prime Minister also congratulated him on the success of his son, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani as MNA from NA-151, Multan.
Ashraf said that the return of Abdul Qadir Gilani in the bye - elections has silenced all those who had doubts about the popularity of PPP. His return is a vindication of the pro people policies of the government as well as their faith in the present coalition government.
The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that, PPP alongwith its allies would win the coming general elections as well.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the country. The appointment of Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, an eminent jurist of impeccable integrity should put to rest any speculations about the next general elections, he emphasized.
Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani thanked the Prime Minister for his sentiments. He said that he would continue to work for the party and welfare of the people.
