Dated: 2012-07-02

Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the forum patronised by the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has called for peaceful protests on Friday against the destruction of shrine at Khanyar and desecration of Quran and other holy relics at Gund Hassibutt in Lawaypora. The forum in a meeting held with Syed Ali Gilani in the chair said that the imams should highlight the importance of holy Quran for Muslims.

Night vigil shall be conducted at all vulnerable mosques, the participants of the meeting added.

The desecration of holy Quran, the meeting said, was the third incident of its kind in less than a month and that it was done to hurt the sentiments of Muslims and to divide them. “The fire in the shrine at Khanyar and the desecration of Quran and Alam Sharief at Gund Hassibhat are elements of the same policy,” the meeting maintained.

“The desecration of holy Quran will not be accepted at any cost and we will defeat all elements behind it,” the meeting observed, and rejected the probe announced by the authorities into the shrine destruction.
