He cited the presence of 6 globally renowned universities, which ranked amongst the best in 300 top universities of Southeast Asia.

PM Gilani also lauded former (late) PM, Z. A. Bhutto for establishing University Grants Commission (UGC), which gave birth to Higher Education Commission (HEC) , whose role models were being followed by Indian and Bangladesh.

He also said that Pakistan was producing 1000 PHDs annually, while before 2002, it was lesser, and also announced that he had recommended to government for allocating 7% of GDP for higher education.
