ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza Wednesday said she has not received any notice from Supreme Court pertaining petitions filed against her ruling about disqualification of the Prime Minister in contempt of court case.

She was talking to media after inaugurating the building of Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services in Islamabad.

“Speaker is the custodian of the Parliament and this portfolio should be respected. I had summoned Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Abid Sher Ali for their alleged involvement in creating hurdles in Parliament proceedings but they have not come.

Parliamentarians have to use their potentials for forming upcoming budget people friendly”, Dr. Fehmida Mirza stated.

She said the rules 28 are very much clear about the capacity of Speaker’s ruling.

Answering a query regarding case of dual nationalities of the parliamentarians, she said that the case is being prosecuted in the court and she could not comment on the issue.

Earlier, while inaugurating the building of PIPS, she said PIPS can play a vibrant role in important legislative process by providing linkages between the federal and provincial committees, as well as with other established parliaments for sharing legislation and replicating best practices, through video conferencing and joint courses, in order to enable the Members to have better understanding of the issues placed before them.

Addressing the gathering at PIPS, Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khoro said, “If Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan can not give respect to the people of other provinces, he would not be respected then. No one has right to ridicule the culture of others and any member of provincial assembly could table a privilege motion against any person.

“Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had allegedly ridiculed the celebration of Sindhi ‘Topi’ and ‘Ajrak’ and two MPA’s of Sindh Assembly tabled privilege motion against him and marked it a disgrace of Sindhi culture and civilization”, he stated.

Nisar Khoro said the privilege committee of provincial assembly has summoned Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan several times but he has not appeared before the committee nor he sent any answer. Answering a query he said, the rules and procedures of privilege committee allow issuance of arrest warrant of Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the case.
