Atrocities turned Baloch into rebels, says Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Chief, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that atrocities and injustices turned Baloch people into insurgents and rebels.

Speaking at the Balochistan Conference organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Saturday, he said that those who committed atrocities and killed Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti should be held accountable.

He lamented that Pervez Musharraf was accorded with guard of honour when he left the presidency and nobody dare held him accountable. Sharif said injustices and cruelties could turn anybody to turn violent. He said, “We should hold responsible ourselves instead of passing the buck”.

He also blamed that Pervez Musharraf’s government is responsible for the current long hours power outage in the country, adding the parliament should had the responsibility made him accountable for this.

“We should not be complaining of Baloch being rebels,” he said, adding that there was not benefit of Balochistan package.

The PML-N Chief said that past practices would not be allowed to be repeated in the country, referring to forced disappearances of people.

Nawaz Sharif admitted, “We were remained part of the establishment in the past directly or indirectly, and we have already apologized from the nation over this mistake, however, now we cannot support that powers”. He said he had learnt lessons from the past.

This is the starting point for giving relief and relaxation to the people of war-torn areas where bloodletting has become hallmark of the day, he said.

He said that that if the government, law and order agencies and members of civil society sincere to the country, they should commence this strategy. Unless and until, the killers of Nawab Akbar Bugti are brought to justice without any bias, the restoration of peace is impossible to be restored in the province.

While criticizing poor policies of the government, he said that killers of Bugti are being saluted. Nobody dares to put them on trial, said the PML-N chief.

He said that nobody should be held responsible for disintegration deterioration in the country as we intentionally departed East Pakistan as Bangladesh. “We should admit our mistakes in order to excel as progressive nation”, he added.

He said that the whole nation has become directionless; it doesn’t know about its destination.

Nawaz Sharif said that some people have become rebel due to poor policies of the government which has nothing to do with the issues the pitiable nation has been facing for long time.

Talking to the media, after the conference, Nawaz Sharif said that judges, who supported and protected the unconstitutional act of former dictator Pervez Musharraf, should apologize for their act.

He said that they must be accountable, adding unfortunately those judges were remained part of the former dictator Pervez Musharraf’s government and now again they are part of the present government.

To a question regarding that some people have the point of view that the period of Pervez Musharraf was better than the incumbent government; the PML-N Chief maintained that the present democratic government is better than the 8 years period of the former dictator Musharraf, who pushed the country into the darkness.
