ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Thursday expressed annoyance over police failure to submit record of alleged illegal activities in Lal Masjid before operation clean-up in the capital’s prominent mosque in 2007.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of number of petitions filed against Lal Masjid operation and reconstruction of Jamia Hafsa in Islamabad. “The brutality over a mosque is very sorrowful feature and the hearing is resumed after a long time but no body is taking interest in the case”, Chief Justice remarked.

Additional Inspector General of Islamabad Capital Territory Police Tahir Alam told the SC that FIR is registered against the Lal Masjid operation.

A petitioner Tariq Asad Advocate told SC that government has committed a contempt of court as it has not started reconstruction of the Jamia Hafsa despite the orders of the court. The SC has rejected plea filed by Iftikhar Gilani who is counsel of the Wafaq-ul-Madaris seeking payment of compensation to victims of Lal Masjid operation by saying the order in this particular case had already been made.
