KARACHI: Pakistani scientists Dr Khalil Chishti on Wednesday reached his hometown, Karachi after the imprisonment of 20 years in the Indian jail.

Dr Chishti arrived Karachi from Islamabad via Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). He was accompanied by MQM leader Babar Ghouri.

Dr Chishti was warmly welcomed by Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Leader Nasreen Jalil, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Leader Shazia Marri and his relatives.

Chishti was sentenced to life imprisonment for the death of a person in a brawl with him when he was visiting Ajmer in April 1992.

He was granted bail by the apex court on April 9 which asked him to make a separate plea for permission to visit Pakistan.
