The accused Tariq Jafri, a private person, was sentenced to 4 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 930,000.
He would be condemned to a further imprisonment of one year if failed to return the fine. Jafri’s co-accused Nasim Pervez, a retired government official, was awarded 2 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 and would undergo a further imprisonment of 15 days in case of failure to return this fine.
Both the accused were alleged to have committed a fraud with the Overseas Pakistani Foundation (OPF) and have withdrawn Rs. 930,000 through a fake application and opened a fake bank account by impersonating as genuine allottee of plot in the OPF housing schemes.
Earlier, the NAB had taken up investigation in the case on a complaint from one Muhammad Arif and filed a reference in the Accountability Court on 15 December 2010. Documentary evidence and witnesses were examined during the trial, which lead to conviction of both accused persons.
