Bulgarian Flag Assumes Afghanistan SEE Brigade BULGARIA: Bulgarian troops will be part of the official farewell ceremony of the international "South-Eastern Europe" brigade to leave for Afghanistan on Monday. Bulgarian Colonel Neyko Nenov will lead the overall 3000-strong contingent recruited from some 20 countries partaking the mission. Bulgaria was assigned the leadership in its first peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan earlier in January. Up to 30 Bulgarian soldiers would take part in the brigade, the Council of Ministers had decided on 1 December 2005. The brigade’s main task would be to help the Afghani government and the rest of the organizations in the country in preserving stability, safety and free movement in its assigned territory including Kabul and the vicinities. The official ceremony on the troops’ departure to be held in Romania’s Konstanca will be attended by Chief of Army Staff General Nikola Kolev. |
