Quake affectees to receive food relief until April 2006: Executive Director WFP ISLAMABAD: The Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP) James Morris has said that the quake affectees would receive full food relief up to April, 2006. He announced this while talking to journalists after his recent tour to the quake affected areas. He said that 8 Oct quake was a bigger calamity than Tsunami, because Tsunami disaster occurred in the flat-leveled topography. This quake was more disastrous because of the way it posed difficulties in rescue and relief works due to deep and most inaccessible mountainous terrain The Director of the World Food Program said that this is the first phase of the relief program for the quake victims, which would continue until April next year, but could be extended on Pakistani government’s request. He aid this program would require substantial donor aid. The Director visited the quake -hit areas of Neelum Valley, Jhelum, and Balakot. He was informed that currently The World Program is dispensing food relief to 10,00,000 people, involving 18 helicopters and more than 300 officials and workers. |
