Volunteers to be trained to perform services in quake-ravaged areas: Durrani ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani Saturday said the volunteers would be trained on such a patron that they would be able to deliver at any part of the globe in peace or emergency situations besides contributing in the rehabilitation and reconstruction phases in the quake-hit areas. While talking to a fifteen-member high level delegation led by William B. Boyd, central president International Rotary Club, at the NVM headquarters, the NVM chairman said as per the instructions of President Pervez Musharraf, the best performers of the volunteer movement would be sent to other countries for rendering volunteer services. He said volunteers could also contribute in addressing the contentious issues of trauma, literacy, environment, traffic, tree plantation, etc. Talking on the occasion, Rotary Club president William Boyd hailed the NVM announcement and extended full cooperation of the rotary club to the NVM. Durrani said the passionate response from the whole nation and the aid by the international community would contribute in the healing process of the wounds of the affectees. He hoped the coordination between NVM and Rotary Club would go a long way in strengthening the bilateral coordination between both the ortganisations. Mrs. Lorna Boyd, Noraseth Pathmanan, Mr. Chotima, Faiz Kidwai, Shakeel Ansari, Faiza Qamar and others included in the Rotary Club delegation. Durrani further said the NVM was meant to coordinate and cooperate with the donor organizations and nations. He vowed to strengthen the linkage between all the organizations working in the earthquake hit areas. William B. Boyd said that the Rotary Club donated $ 500 million to the president relief fund while it had also distributed 8,000 tents to the affectees. He further narrated that the Rotaries had also invited thirteen doctors from Sri Lanka which were serving the humanity in the devastated areas. Later, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani was invited to visit the tent-village organized by the Rotary Club at the Block-B, Sector H-11, Islamabad. On the arrival of the chief guest, the delegation was briefed on the affairs of the tent-village where two hundred injured were given latest tents. The chairman NVM and President Rotary Club distributed gifts among the affectees. |
