SC to hear review petition of walima (Wedding meal) ban tomorrow ISLAMABAD: A full bench of the Supreme Court would hear petitions seeking review of its judgement banning hosting of walima (Wedding 's meal) on Monday Dec 20. SC bench headed by the Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui also comprised Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and Justice Tassadiq Hussain Jilani. Two identical petitions have been filed by Ch. Mohammed Siddiq and other caterers seeking review of the SC judgement banning hosting of walima on wedding functions. In petitions filed through senior advocate Maqbool Illahi Malik, petitioner termed the ban as un-Islamic, illegal and unconstitutional, and pleaded that judges of the Shariat appellate bench and a former bench headed by ex Chief Justice Sh. Riaz Ahmed be included in the bench to hear review petition. Petitioner contended that the bench headed by former CJ Sh. Riaz had lifted the ban imposed on serving wedding meal adding another bench headed by the Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui was not competent to overrule the judgement of their 'brother judges'. Petitioner pleaded the SC to lift ban on serving wedding meal. |
