PFF Chief approves 35 female footballers for National Camp

LAHORE: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)’s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has approved 35 female footballers in the build up for the National Women football team to appear in the 11th South Asian Games, slated to run at Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka from 29 January to 9 February 2010.

The Games will be comprised athletes from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka who will participate in the 23 disciplines viz Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, T20 Cricket, Cycling, Football, Golf, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate, Shooting, Squash , Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Weightlifting , Wrestling and Wushu.

The South Asian Olympic Council’s Executive Council on 18 November 2009 at Dhaka has decided to include Women football in the Games and Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka have already confirmed their entry," The ladies football is being included for the first time in biennial Games since its inception in 1984,"said Robina Irfan, Chairperson, PFF Women Wing who added that Technical Study Group (TSG) of 5th National Women Championship at Islamabad was responsible for picking the probable and they handed PFF Operation Cell the 35-player list comprised of Sports Sciences, Punjab University (7): Shumaila Sattar, Ishrat Fatima, Naima Mukhtar, Samia Ehsan, Ayesha Haroon, Isra Batool, Shagufta Akhtar
