NA approves human organs’ transplantation bill unanimously

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) has unanimously passed human organs’ transplantation bill-2009 here on Thursday.

Health minister Ejaz Jakhrani tabled the bill in the house and the speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza sought clause wise approval of the bill from the house.

Following the passage of the bill the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated the house and whole nation on approval of the bill saying this house did the job what was not done during the last 15 years.

The process of transplantation of human organs has come in the orbit of law with the passage of this bill. Under this bill hospital management, if found involved in illegal transplantation of human organs will be liable to be fined of Rs 1 million or punished for 10 years prison term or would face both the punishments .

Pakistan Medical and Dental Council would be authorized to cancel the registration of the doctor found involved in illegal transplantation of human organs and such doctor would not be allowed to continue his practice.

This bill was earlier promulgated in the form of ordinance in 2007, which was approved from parliament under the directives of Supreme Court.

No hospital would be allowed to conduct human organs transplantation unless it was registered with the respective authority. This bill would end the illegal business of kidney transplantation in the country.
