Remarks of former President Pervez Musharraf regarding drone attacks in Pakistan misrepresented: spokesman LONDON: The spokesman of former President Pervez Musharraf, Dr. Naseem Ashraf, while referring to the article in the New Yorker dated November 9, 2009 by Mr. Seymour Hersh - "Defending the Arsenal", has strongly remarked that the remarks of former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf have been misrepresented regarding the drone attacks in Pakistan by the US, and Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, the President of Pakistan. The spokesman while correcting the record, with respect to US drone Airstrikes in Pakistan, notwithstanding the fact that they targeted and eliminated terrorists, President Musharraf viewed them a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and had repeatedly proposed to the United States Government that drone technology be transferred to Pakistan’s Armed forces to deploy when needed. "As a start, he had suggested that there be a "joint US/Pakistan control" of the predator drone strikes" said Dr Naseem Ashraf. The spokesman further elaborated that; Mr. Musharraf is not given to making personal remarks against anyone, least of all the President of Pakistan. |
