Acceptance of any post not to be unusual: Aitzaz

LAHORE: Former President Supreme Court of Bar Association (SCBA), Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has admitted that the government offered a post to him and talks in this regard were held with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.

Talking to media men here on Monday, Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan said that Pakistan Peoples Party is his party and it would not be unusual if he accepts any important responsibility.

The former President SCBA, however said that during his meetings with the president and the prime minister, all other issues were also discussed.

The veteran lawyer’s leader said that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and a legal personality called him when he was in the United States and after these phone calls, meetings were held.

Responding to a question, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said that the people and media made speculations, adding PPP is a nationwide party and rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the country and democracy.

He said that former President Pervez Musharraf through a constitutional amendment strengthened NRO but the Supreme Court through July 31 verdict declared this amendment invalid.

In response to a question, Aitzaz Ahsan said that action cannot be taken against those who taken benefit under NRO before October 4, 2009, adding SC to take decision on accountability reference.

Commenting on current situation, he said that the country was facing critical time of its history and mentioned the crises of electricity, sugar and atta.
