NA defense body approves NCA bill issued in Musharraf era ISLAMABAD : The National Assembly Standing Committee for defense has approved the National Command Authority bill issued during the former President Pervez Musharraf era with majority vote. The meeting of the committee held here on Friday chaired by its chairperson Uzra Afzal deferred the bill establishing National Defense University after the objections on it by opposition. The meeting lasted for about four hours in which it discussed in detail the National Command Authority ordinance 2007 and National Defense University ordinance 2007, issued during the era of former President Pervez Musharraf. PML-N MNA Ishrat Ashraf demanded the inclusion of opposition leader in the National Command Authority and said it is very important institution, which is responsible for the development and security of Pakistan nuclear assets, and therefore, inclusion of opposition in it was must. The committee listened his views but later approved the National Command Authority bill 2007, however some opposition members raised objections on the National Defense University 2007 and said all powers regarding the board and other matters of the university should be with the Prime Minister, on which the bill was deferred. Later, talking to media persons after the meeting, chairperson Uzra Afzal said the committee after reviewing the bills would present in the house during the current session, adding, as we try to get consensus of all the members on the bill and objections would be deliberated. |
