Indian Navy to purchase 9 small submarines for secret missions: Report

ISLAMABAD: Indian Navy said on Sunday it would purchase nine small submarines, aiming to ensure security of its territorial boundaries.

According to a report quoted Defense department sources as revealing that increase in military power and development of Indian Navy is must to supervise enemy designs, for which small submarines would be purchased.

The submarines, Indian defense sources added, would be used for secret missions in oceans and supervision of ongoing movements in enemies’ ports, for which talks are in progress with Germany, Italy and Russia for their purchase and would be handed over to Indian Naval Special Services.

Media reports say initially five and later four submarines would be purchased, comprising four to six officials each, which could supervise important enemies’ ports along with secret operations up to 400m deep in open sea.

The submarines, reports added, could prove dangerous for enemies due to presence of Torpedoes and capacity of small staff.

However, Captain Bilal, spokesman for Pakistan Navy told Online when contacted, that Pakistan Navy has already equipped with the technology of small submarines, which are being used by commandos.

All possible steps are being taken to ensure equip the submarines with modern facilities, he added.

“Defense of our territorial boundaries is the top priority of Pakistan Navy and ready to perform this duty”, he remarked and added that it is eying Indian steps, however would not join weapons race with India.
