13227 foreign prisoners in Pakistani jails despite completing sentence: NA informed ISLAMABAD: 13227 foreign prisoners are currently under detention in Pakistani jails despite completing their sentence and would be handed over to their respective countries after preparation of their travel documents. The National Assembly on Friday was informed in written by the Interior Ministry that 42 prisoners are under detention in Central Jail Lahore, 18 in Central Jail Rawalpindi, 48 in different jails of Sindh, 33 in Central Jail Peshawar while nearly 8086 foreign prisoners are facing detention in different jails of Balochistan. The Lower House was further informed that the foreign prisoners included 11736 Afghan, 107 Iranian, 3 Nepalese, 50 Indian, 241 Bangladeshi, 7 Iraqis, 26 Nigerian, 5 South African while 7 prisoners are hailed from Saudi Arabia, 2 from Tanzania, 1 from Uganda, 8 from Germany, 6 from Tajikistan, 2 from Russia and 3 prisoners are from Libya. Three prisoners of Kyrgyzstan, 2 from Ghana, 1 from Dominique, 2 from Uzbekistan, 1 from Siera Leone, 2 from Zimbabwe while 1 citizen of China, Burma, Ovary Coast and a US citizens are also detained in Pakistani jails, the NA was informed. Responding to a question, it was informed that 8494 rifles, 13151 shotguns, 73730 revolvers, 4544 Klashnikoves, 5731 carbon, 536 hand grenades, 567 magazines, 1382541 bullets and 144 rocket launchers were also recovered in the year of 2008 from different persons who had these arms and ammunition illegally. |
