17 killed in Khairpur road mishap

KHAIRPUR: 17 people have been killed while several sustained critical injuries in traffic accident between two passenger coaches on National Highway near Khairpur on Sunday.

According to SHO Hangorja, the accident occurred near Ranipur when a passenger coach coming from Karachi and heading to Punjab, tried to overtake another passenger coach and collided with it.

At the result of the accident, 12 people were killed on the spot while 5 others succumbed to their injuries on their way to hospital.

According to officials, almost 30 people were injured and most of them were in a critical condition. After the accident volunteers of Edhi Foundation and locals gathered in large number to rescue the victims and pulled out the dead bodies out of the vehicles and shifted the injured to local hospitals of Hangorja and Sakkar.

Meanwhile, on the same road 20 people were injured when a passenger coach turned turtle due to fog. Three people were critically injured and all the injured were shifted to local hospital. According to authorities, the incident occurred due to fog.
