Illegal detention of Wife of Taliban commander condemned

ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Defense of Human Rights, Amina Masood Janjua has disclosed that a Pakistani national Habiba, wife of Taliban Commander Ahmad Khulsan detained in Musharraf era on charges of terrorism was in the illegal detention of intelligence agencies.

While addressing a press conference along with Chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan and British journalists Yvonne Ridley, she said that intelligence agencies were holding Habiba on the charges of terrorism and extremism at the behest of America.

Amina Masood Janjua said that Habiba was being interrogated at Lahore Central Jail every month about her contacts with Taliban.

Chairperson Defense of Human Rights has strongly condemned this act of intelligence agencies and demanded from the government to release all the persons including Habiba who were illegally detained during Musharraf era.

She also demanded from the government to play its role for early release of all Pakistanis including Dr. Aafia Siddiqui who were handed over to US during Musharraf rule.

Amana Masood Janjua further said that Dr. Aafia was being physically tortured, and also had to pass through comprehensive physical search even before to meet her relatives, advocate, or to appear before court.

She also appealed the incumbent government to pursue to case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and take substantial steps for recovery of her children.

She also warned that if US failed to disclose the truth about the Pakistanis being held by them, she would disclose another outrageous scandal more shocking than Abu Gharib Jail of Iraq.

British journalist Yvonne Ridley who embraced Islam in Taliban captivity told that prisoners No. 650 was not Dr. Aafia Siddiqui rather another Pakistani woman who had been held in solitary confinement for years at the Bagram US base near Kabul.

She also stressed upon the government to play its role for release of all missing persons.
