15 killed in Peshawar Blast PESHAWAR: At least 15 people including
five policemen, two children and a
woman have been killed and several
dozens injured in a suicide car blast
at Kohat Road near Peshawar. The blast took place at about 11.55 am Saturday morning when people were busy in daily routine work at busy Kohat road. According to police sources, an explosive-laden Double Cabin vehicle, which was coming from Darra Adam Khel area towards Peshawar, blasted near Zangali check post barricade at Kohat Road. Eye witnesses said only a driver sitting inside the vehicle. The blast resulted in sudden killing of at least 10 persons including five policemen, who were inside the police check post and injuring several. The blast also damaged the nearby buildings and cars. Police sources have confirmed that it was a suicide car blast and the target was the police check post. Due to the blast, two markets, situated opposite to the check post caved in, which resulted in the killing and injuries to several people, who were inside the shops. The injured and bodies were rushed to the nearby Kohat road Satellite hospital, lady Reading Hospital and CMH. Police sources said that they have recovered the parts of the body of suicide bomber and sent to the hospital. It merits a mention here that due to the presidential election and voting by the legislators at provincial assembly, almost all the in and out lets of Peshawar were sealed due to the fear of any attack. Meanwhile Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and acting President Mohammadmian Soomro on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Kohat road on a police post that claimed several precious lives. They said the government will not be deterred by such acts and would continue its efforts to wipe out extremism and terrorism from the country. They expressed his deep grief over the loss of precious lives in the attack and prayed to Almighty Allah to bless those who lost their lives. They also prayed for the families to bear the loss with equanimity. |
