Cooperation in Gem sector between Pakistan and India discussed

NEW DELHI: Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan/Minister of State Tariq Ikram discussed various avenues of cooperation between Pakistan and India in gem and jewellery sectors.

Tariq Ikram who is currently on a visit to New Delhi visited the Regional Office of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the Indian Gemological Institute and Jewellery Product Development Centre, which are located in the same premises.

Tariq Akram was welcomed by the Regional Director Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, K.K. Duggal. Chief Executive TDAP was briefed about the objectives of both the Training Institutes. Tariq Ikram also undertook a round of the Institutions and interacted with teachers and students.

It was mutually decided in the discussion to explore the following avenues of cooperation: Training of Trainers in Pakistan by Indian experts; Temporary loaning of services of Thomas Beil, Principal, Jewellery Product Development Centre, for setting up similar training facilities in Pakistan; Participation of visitors from Pakistan in the Jewellery Exhibition at Goa, starting on 29th February, 2008; Visit of delegation from GJEPC to Expo 2008 to be held at Karachi in March, 2008; and Facilitation of visit of delegation from GJEPC to next Gem and Jewellery exhibition at Peshawar.
