PPP strongly condemns illegal detention of its workers KARACHI: Pakistan People Party strongly condemned the illegal detentions of its activities and ruthless torturing of its party workers and supporter across Sindh injuring dozens including women who were dragged by hair on the second consecutive day of PPP protests against the detention of Benazir Bhutto and crackdown against PPP workers in Punjab and NWFP. PPP blamed that baton-charges, tear-gassing and aerial firing was the order of the day on Wednesday as the regime went mad after people took streets in many districts. Reports of arrests of the PPP workers, including women are continuously pouring in from all over the province. A massive violation of human rights is being committed in the province in full view of the public and ugly scenes of police torture. PPP further accused Sindh Chief Minister and Ali Muhammad Mahar that they have given shoulder promotions to 46 police officials to use them against the people when they demand their rights. In Karachi, different areas of Lyari, Malir, Korangi, Pak Colony, Old Golimar, Site Area, Shershah, Gulbai, Ibrahim Haidry, Manghopir etc were mostly closed while protesting public burnt tyres to vent their anguish against the detention of BB. The city witnesses several dozens of protest demonstration and sit-up by the PPP workers. Hundreds of people participated in a rally led by Raja Razzaq Baloch, and Salman Murad from Manzil Petrol Pump to Abbott Laboratory on National Highway. In Larkana and Khairpur police dragged the protesting PPP women wing workers by hair in the most brutal way. People held sit-in on many main road arteries like National Highways, and Indus Highway disrupting the traffic for hours. In Hyderabad, Thatta, Jacobabad, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Ghotki, Sanghar, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Dadu, Jamshoro, Naushehro Feroz, Moro, Mahar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, and many other cities and towns rallies were brought out against the martial law and detention of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Enraged by the smear campaign launched by the regime against the PPP Chairperson, the workers raised slogans against the General Musharraf and his henchmen holding the Pakistani nation hostage on gunpoint. Over one thousand PPP workers were arrested from all over the province during protests and raids at the homes. |
