NADRA receives 372 applications in 2nd phase of kiosk franchising project

KARACHI: The national database and registration authority (NADRA) has received 372 applications in the second phase of its kiosk-franchising project.

A press release issued here said that in the second phase, the NADRA had invited applications from all over the country and received an overwhelming response.

The application received in the second phase are 24 from Karachi, 35 from Sargodha, 70 from Multan, 60 from Lahore, 31 from Sukkur, 90 from Peshawar, 32 from Quetta and 30 from Islamabad.

As many as 100 kiosk has already been franchised in the initial round launched on March 9, 2007 in five cities including Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad, the release said.

It is to be mentioned here that the project is basically designed to offer self-employment for young educated unemployed youth as well as value addition to small businessman.

The kiosk are being used for utility bill payment, dispensing pin for scratch card (mobile phone, calling cards) and citizen verification system currently while NADRA is also planing to use the kiosk to process application for duplicate CNIC, collection of credit card payment, e-ticketing and merchant accounts.
