NATO has until end of ’08 to prevail in Afghanistan Washington: US Assistant Secretary of State, Daniel Fried said that NATO-led forces in Afghanistan have only until the end of 2008 to achieve success over the Taliban. Delivering a speech at the Center for International Policy, Fried said NATO forces have been on the offensive this year fearing a massive Taliban push which was expected as the summer approached and mountain snows began to melt. "The much-heralded spring offensive has turned out to be ours," Fried said adding that the allied force have "seized the momentum this spring." On this context, he recalled the recent allied success in securing a dam in Helmand Province, a major source of hydro electric power for the region. |
