Terrorism not associated with any religion: Fazal

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in NA, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman said that associating extremism with particular religion was not correct adding that it was the just policies of some countries that caused extremism.

He said while talking to two-member German Parliamentary delegation led by Elik Hoff called on him, here on Wednesday.

Talking to delegation, the leader of the opposition in the NA said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with EU countries and would like to further strengthen relations.

He said that Pakistan and EU countries have similar views on many regional and international issues.

He said that Pakistan believes in peaceful resolution of regional and international issues and it is against terrorism and extremism.

He said that Pakistan wanted peace in Afghanistan that was achievable through talks.

He underlined the need for enhanced exchange of parliamentary delegations between EU countries and Pakistan.

He further said that the world recognized the role of Pakistan was paying as a country.

Later on, German Delegation also called on Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Dr Farooq Sattar.

The Chairman Standing Committee while talking to the delegation said that Pak-German relations rooted in deep cultural and intellectual understanding.

He said that EU countries played an important role in Socio-economic development and welfare of the developing countries.

He appreciated the German role in the fields of education, health, science and technology for Pakistan.

He further said that Kashmir problem was unfinished agenda of the partition and its resolution was must for peace and prosperity in the region.

Pakistan wants peaceful resolution of the problem according to the wishes of Kashmiris and has shown tremendous flexibility in this regard. “ The EU countries should play their role to resolve this issue.”

He briefed them on broad features of Parliamentary democracy and the committee system in NA.

He said that prominent characteristics of the present Parliament included the representation of educated youth, the empowerment of women and strengthening of local government system.

He said that the MPs were also actively participating in the development activities in their constituencies.

The chairman said that Pakistan wanted peace in Afghanistan and curb terrorism and extremism for peace and promotion of regional and bilateral cooperation in all sectors of the economy.

He said that the President General Pervez Musharraf’s vision of enlightened moderation has helped in removing the west’s misconceptions against Pakistan and Islam.

The German Parliamentary Elike Hoff and Alexen Bonde said that the exchange of Parliamentary delegations provided opportunities for mutual exchange and there should be more visits of this kind.

. They said that Germany wanted Indo-Pak dialogue to succeed. They appreciated Pakistan’s role in war against terrorism.
