Dialogue the only conducive way for peace in Afghanistan: Fazl DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The opposition leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has said that only the process of dialogue can bring everlasting and conducive peace in Afghanistan. Speaking with journalists in Dera Ismail Khan, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman lauded the NWFP Governor for being able to reach a peace accord in North Wazirstan, and which was the initial phase of the peace process in Afghanistan. Among various steps needed for the purpose he has demanded immediate abolishment of the UN Resolution, which has provided NATO with an unbridled license to indulge in genocide, Taliban be given a chance to fall into the Afghan National mainstream through ballot, and immediate cessation of NATO’s bombardment of civilian population, which is winning Taliban quite many sympathies even from neutral elements besides causing an irreparable loss of human lives. Maulana also criticized the restructuring process in Afghanistan, since all the development is restricted to the region of Northwestern Afghanistan, while the Pakhtoon majority of Southeastern Afghanistan was being deliberately neglected, causing feelings of hatred and deprivation in the masses of the region. He said that since Pakistan borders the Pashtoon dominated region of Afghanistan and is culturally and traditionally entwined in family relationships, it has been historically difficult to subjugate these tribes and masses of the region. He said that only a Jirga can help meditate, and Governor NWFP has explained the basic and logic of North Wazirstan peace accord, and has been able to convince them of its effectiveness. He said that Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s contacts with him and the Pakistan Government are a living proof of the facts that both of us have no contacts with Taliban , and stressed on American officials to provide an outlet for Taliban if they (Americans ) wanted to be known as bearers of peace in the region. |
