Govt says security situation satisfactory KABUL: The government has said that overall security situation in the country is satisfactory. Speaking at his weekly press briefing here, presidential spokesman Karim Rahimi said the cabinet had reviewed the security situation on Monday and expressed satisfaction over it. Asked about the recent bomb explosions in Kabul, the spokesman said reports by security agencies suggested that security situation in the country was improving. He said although it was difficult to prevent suicide attacks, the security agencies had recently nabbed several would-be suicide bombers and successfully averted losses of civilians and government officials. Hours before Rahmi’s press briefing, a bomb planted on a roadside parked bicycle, targeted a police vehicle injuring seven personnel in Kulula Pushta area of this central capital. The spokesman condemned the attack and described it a coward act on part of the enemies of the country, a euphemism for Taliban. Rahimi termed as baseless a report in which some former commanders, who are now sitting in the parliament and government, were described as war criminals. The report alleged MPs Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf and Burhanuddin Rabbani, and the current vice-president Karim Khalili were involved in war crimes. Brushing aside the report, the spokesman said those leaders had helped the country during jihad (holy war) and they were now playing their role in reconstruction of the country by joining the government. To a question about the nuclear detonation carried out by North Korea on Monday, he said the government of Afghanistan wanted the entire world to be at peace. |
