All recruitments in Senate held on merit during Wasim Sajjad’s tenure: Speaker’s ruling

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Muhammad Mian Soomro has given the ruling that no irregularities were found in all recruitments which were held during the tenure of Former Chairman Senate and present Leader of the House, Wasim Sajjad.

Chairman Senate while giving the ruling in response of the opposition’s objections regarding the irregularities in recruitments process during Wasim Sajjad tenure as Chairman Senate, said that National Assembly would also be informed in this context.

Opposition has the stand that Yousaf Raza Gillani also recruited people according to rules and regulations but he is in jail which evince government’s double standard.

Leader of the House in Senate, Waseem Sajjad while speaking in response of the allegations of Chaudhary Aitazaz Ahsan that he recruited 200 people in Senate according to the rules and regulations.

Waseem Sajjad said that he remained Chairman Senate for 12 years but never recruited a single person against rules and regulations, adding that he never crossed his limits. He said that all the recruitments were held by giving aids in the newspapers. Waseem Sajjad requested to send his statement to Speaker which would clear all the situation.

Safdar Abassi of Opposition said that Aitazaz Ahsan not directly hold responsible Wasim Sajjad to appointed people against rules and regulations. He said that Yousaf Raza Gillani recruited people like Wasim Sajjad did but he is in jail, adding that this show that double standard exists in the country.

Wasim Sajjad in response requested not to link his case with Yousaf Raza Gillani and said that without examine the records no one has the right to talk against me. He said that the records of all 200 recruitments which recruited in his tenure was audited.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Sher Afghan Khan Niazi requested to give him Waseem Sajjad’s letter, said he would read it in the Assembly to clear the misunderstanding.

Opposition member Babar Awan said that it is the first time that a reference has been filed against a person on giving jobs to people. He said that the court has given bail to Benazir Bhutto and Naheed Khan in this reference but Yousaf Raza Gillani still in jail.

Babar Awan said that if the statement of Waseem Sajjad is going to be read in the Assembly then our statement should also read in the assembly. He demanded to present the record of Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Assembly.

Opposition Leader, Raza Rabbani has termed Yousaf Raza Gillani imprisonment as political victimization and expressed his annoyance over inappropriate behavior with him by jail authorities. He said that he had written a letter in this context to Chairman of Human right Committee in Senate, SM Zafar.

Rabbani said that Yousaf Raza Gillani is being pressurized to change his loyalty but he is doing his politics on the basis of principles.

Chairman Senate said that all speeches which were read here would be provided to Opposition’s members in written form.
